Fault Finding Method: Prove The Symptom First

Name the fault before you buy parts. Check fuel, battery and fuses first. Fix the cause, not the flat battery or the fouled plugs.

Engine Will Not Start: Petrol Versus Diesel

Silent starter versus spinning and never firing. Petrol wants coils, plugs and PATS. Diesel wants glow, fuel filter and no air in the lines.

Idle shake, hesitation, stalls and a flat pull. Coils and plugs on petrol, injectors and filter on diesel, intake leaks before you blame the ECU.

Petrol Fuel Pump Pressure Check

Listen under the rear seats at key-on, then gauge the Schrader on the right of the rail. Spec is 4.5 bar. Sensor torque 10 Nm.

Fuel Cut-Off Inertia Switch

Driver footwell kick panel, two screws. After a shunt or a hard bump the pump stays dead until you press the reset on top.
