Interior Trim And Facia Cautions

Battery wait beside headlining airbags, visible screws then edge clips, label every facia plug, never force a panel that still hangs on a hidden rivet.

How Trim Comes Off

Cabin panels hold with screws, studs, clips or expanding plastic rivets. Look for overlapping neighbours first; there is usually an order. Remove every visible screw. If the panel still hangs on, the rest are edge clips: prise them gently, and have spares ready because they snap. Expanding rivets need the centre pin lifted before the body comes out. Adjacent weatherstrip often has to peel back before a clip will clear. Force cracks the plastic; stop and find the fastener you missed.

Pillars And The Headlining Bag

A-pillar and saloon C-pillar trims sit next to the headlining airbag. Disconnect the battery negative lead and wait at least one minute before those panels move. A-pillar trim also has a retaining strap: free the strap as the panel comes off, and note how the lugs at the base engage the facia on refit.

Facia

Full facia removal is a long strip: battery off, centre console, A-pillars, steering column, cluster, climate panel, passenger airbag, light switch, end panels, then the bolts and rivets in the console and glovebox apertures. Label every wiring plug as it comes off; the tags earn their keep when the looms go back through the apertures. On refit, feed every connector through its hole, seat the front locating lugs, tighten the fasteners, reconnect the battery, and prove every switch before you call it done.

Headlining and one-piece carpets are specialist work once seats, console and adjoining trim are clear. Do not start those jobs without a plan for storage and refit.
