Fuel Cut-Off Inertia Switch

Driver footwell kick panel, two screws. After a shunt or a hard bump the pump stays dead until you press the reset on top.

What It Does

The inertia switch kills power to the fuel pump if the car takes a sharp impact. A shunt, a deep pothole, or even a heavy kerb hit can trip it. Crank with no pump whine under the rear seat, fuse and relay good: check this switch before you strip the tank.

Find And Reset

It sits behind the driver side footwell kick panel. Battery earth off if you are removing the switch. Kick panel out, two retaining screws, unplug and withdraw. Refit is reverse. Whether you renewed it or only bumped it, press the reset button on the top of the switch firmly until it clicks. Key on and listen for the pump prime. If it trips again with no impact, look for a loose mount or a faulty switch rather than chasing the pump.
