Bonnet Lid

Open the bonnet. With an assistant holding it, mark the outline of each hinge on the lid so you can put it back in the same place. Disconnect the washer hose at the jets. Heated jets also have wiring plugs: unplug those and free the hose or loom from any clips. Still with two people supporting the lid, remove the hinge-to-bonnet bolts on both sides and lift the lid clear.

Refit with an assistant. Start the bolts finger tight, line the hinges up with your marks, then tighten. Close the lid and check the gaps to the wings and scuttle. Slack the hinge bolts again if the lid needs a nudge, then lock them and confirm the catch opens and closes cleanly. Reconnect the hose and any heated-jet wires.

Support Struts

Open the bonnet and have someone hold the lid. Prise the retaining clip at each end of the strut and pull the strut off its balls. Refit is the reverse: seat both ends, then push the clips home.

Release Cable

On the passenger side, pull the sill trim up to free its clips, then pull the kick panel / lower A-pillar trim rearward and off. At the release lever, pull the outer cable out of its bracket and unhook the inner cable end from the lever.

Under the slam panel, free the inner cable fittings from the lock levers on both sides. Unclip the outer cable from the slam-panel clips, drill out the rivet that holds it to the inner wing, prise the rubber grommet from the bulkhead, and draw the cable into the bay.

Route the new cable the same way, clip it fully, and check both bonnet locks work before you shut the lid for the last time.
