Radiator Cooling Fans And Module
ECU-driven twin fans, module on the upper left of the shroud, fused jump test, then petrol versus diesel shroud removal.
What Commands The Fans
The twin radiator fans are driven by the engine ECU from the coolant-temperature sensor. All models get two fans. The control module bolts to the upper left corner of the fan shroud and can be renewed on its own when that is the failed part.
Start with the related fuses and relays. To prove a motor, unplug it and feed it from the battery through fused jump leads. Still dead: renew the motor. Motor runs: chase the loom, the temperature sensor, the module, or the ECU path.
Diesel: Shroud Off
The condenser pipes have to come off this path, so have the air-conditioning circuit recovered by a Jaguar dealer or an R134a shop first. Do not vent it yourself.
Battery and tray out. Drain the cooling system. Free the vent hose and the radiator upper hose at the upper left of the radiator. Unplug the module. Intercooler out. Free the radiator lower hose. Undo the nuts and part the refrigerant pipes at the condenser end; plug every opening and plan new O-rings. Undo the radiator support-beam bolts with a helper holding the stack, lower the radiator and shroud together, then release the clips and separate the shroud from the radiator.
Petrol: Shroud Off
Air cleaner off. Cable-tie the radiator loosely to the slam panel so it cannot drop. Drain if not already empty. Unplug the module on the shroud. Unclip the oil-cooler-to-thermostat hose and tie it up to the front crossmember. Undo the support-beam bolts and ease the radiator and fan pack down a little. Free the lower coolant hose. Release the clips, slide the shroud up off its brackets, and lower it out.
Refitting
Reverse the removal order. On diesel, new refrigerant O-rings and a shop evacuate, charge and leak-test before the car leaves. Refill the cooling system and confirm the fans answer a hot idle or an air-con demand.
