Manual Transmission Oil Check And Renewal
WSD-M2C200-C, 5-speed 1.9 L at 45 Nm, 6-speed 1.75 L at 35 Nm, level at the filler hole lower edge, ATF readers to A-196.
Which Box
Manual gearboxes appear across the range: 2.0 V6, 2.5 V6, 3.0 V6, 2.0d and 2.2d. Both petrol and diesel used five-speed and six-speed units. Fluid is Jaguar WSD-M2C200-C. Capacities: 5-speed 1.9 litres, 6-speed 1.75 litres. Filler and drain plugs torque to 45 Nm on the five-speed and 35 Nm on the six-speed. Automatic fluid is a different job: see A-196, do not use this procedure on an auto.
Level Check
No dipstick. Car level on stands, undershields off for access. On the five-speed the filler and level plug sits on the lower front of the housing. On the six-speed it sits at the rear, behind the left-hand driveshaft. Allen key or socket, expect it tight. Correct level is oil at the lower edge of the filler hole. Top with a syringe or bottle and tube until it just weeps, wait for the drip to stop, then refit and torque the plug. A box that needs regular topping has a leak: find it.
Drain And Refill
A short run first warms the oil so it drains cleaner. Hot exhaust and casing will burn: gloves. Level ground, handbrake, front on stands, undershield off. Tray under the drain, plug out, let it empty. Clean plug, new washer where fitted, torque to the figure for that gearbox, car down.
Refill through the level hole with the stated grade and volume until oil trickles from the hole, then torque the filler plug. A short drive spreads the oil; park level and recheck the lower-edge level before the undershield goes back.
