Only the 2.0 litre petrol uses a throttle cable. 2.5 and 3.0 read a pedal position sensor and drive the throttle motor from the ECM. Do not look for a cable on those engines.

Removal

Lift the plastic engine cover. Open the throttle fully, unclip the inner cable from the linkage, prise the retainer and free the outer cable from its bracket. Release any clips along the run. In the driver footwell, pull the end fitting and collar from the top of the pedal, slide the inner through the pedal slot, and tie string to the cable end. From the bay, pull the cable through the bulkhead and untie the string.

Refit And Adjust

Draw the new cable through with the string, reverse the clips and pedal fitting, seat the outer in the bracket. For free play: slide the clip off the ferrule and ribbed adjuster sleeve, pull the sleeve fully out of the ferrule to take up slack, have a helper floor the pedal so the sleeve slides back, hold it and refit the clip. Sweep the pedal: the valve must move smoothly from shut to wide open and back with no stick. Throttle housing to manifold screws, if you opened that joint, are 10 Nm; TPS screws on the 2.0 potentiometer are 7 Nm.
