Transfer case whine and viscous coupling wear
The rising drone between 40 and 60 mph on AWD cars, a bench test for the viscous unit, and the fluid that is routinely got wrong.

Torque figures, fault codes, part numbers and inspection notes for every engine and drivetrain variant. Written to workshop standard, checked against factory documentation.
Sealed pressurised circuit, expansion-tank cap, electric fans that can spin after shutdown, and why you never crack a hot system.
Drain first, spring clips versus screw clips, plastic stubs that crack if you lever hard, soap not grease, then a short road check on the clamps.
ECU-driven twin fans, module on the upper left of the shroud, fused jump test, then petrol versus diesel shroud removal.
Petrol cover or full housing from the left-hand front. Diesel pump via the PAS pump, and why that job also belongs with the timing-belt kit in A-301.
Battery earth off, ashtray and centre-panel screws, hazard and climate plugs, then the four screws that hold the control panel to the audio unit.
Do not vent R134a yourself. What you may unbolt dry, and what only a recovery shop may open.
Plugs and corrosion first, then air filter, compression, fuel filter and breathers. OBD under the driver facia. High-pressure spray is dangerous.
Oil feed and return, variable vanes, intercooler path, new gaskets. The charger is part of the exhaust manifold; full strip is a separate engine job.
Angled cat under the manifold, short flex, one-piece rear with centre and tail silencers. Later cars add a flanged DPF after the flex.
Dipstick and filler out, top cover off, MAF unplugged, outlet clamp, rear plugs and vacuum, front intake pipes, then lift the pegs from the grommets.
No throttle cable. The sensor is built into the pedal. Driver lower trim off, plug out, nuts off. Idle is ECM only.
Plastic tank under the rear seats, in-tank pump, SFI on 95 RON. Kill pressure before any union: fuse run-down, crack on a rag, or Schrader on the right of the rail.
2WD one right-hand module; 4WD right pump plus left transfer with cross-over pipes. Lock ring 70 Nm, tool 310-072A, align the arrows, new seal.
No drain plug. Empty first, rear cushion and grommet, straps at 25 Nm. 4WD needs propshaft out, front silencer out, final drive down about 75 mm.
Twin manifolds, downpipe, cat(s), rear with two or three silencers on rubber hangers. Cat to manifold 25 Nm, cat to engine 23 Nm, flex to cat 55 Nm. Oxygen sensors 40 Nm.
Cable on 2.0 litre alone. 2.5 and 3.0 use a pedal position sensor and a throttle motor. Adjust at the ferrule with the pedal floored.
MAF, CMP, CKP, TPS versus pedal, O2, VCT solenoid: what each tells the ECM, with torque where we have it. Not a full strip.
Wheelarch liner holes, sill trim, parking-aid plug, saloon sill nuts, estate light trims and RH overflow pipe. Guides take the front edge on refit.
Mark the hinges, free the washer hose and heated-jet wires, two people on the lid, then passenger sill trim for the cable run to the slam panel.
Visible screws, then the clips around the edge, release-handle cable, window and mirror plugs, and the sealed weathershield behind the skin.
Actuators live inside the door or boot lock. Scan the GEM first. Torx screws at the rear edge, rods and cables, never shut a door until the lock proves itself.
Warm glass only. Push the inner edge forward, wedge the outer edge off the motor, unplug the heater if fitted. Folding on the key is A-064.
Fuse first, Allen key through the overhead console for manual move, three screws on the motor, then tilt and a half-second re-press to teach the glass.
Slide for the floor bolts, belt guide trim, battery off for a full minute before side-airbag plugs, pretensioner on the inboard rail.
Battery wait beside headlining airbags, visible screws then edge clips, label every facia plug, never force a panel that still hangs on a hidden rivet.
Sill trim, load-side trim, twist the collar in the flap aperture, free the latch and spring, then the floor handle bolts and the clipped run.
Intervals, fluids and consumables by variant.
