Transfer case whine and viscous coupling wear
The rising drone between 40 and 60 mph on AWD cars, a bench test for the viscous unit, and the fluid that is routinely got wrong.

Torque figures, fault codes, part numbers and inspection notes for every engine and drivetrain variant. Written to workshop standard, checked against factory documentation.
How the diesel EGR works, why soot builds up in the intake, what blanking actually does, and the catch on the 2.2d automatic.
Why the glow-plug light flashes, why key-off-and-on is only a stay of execution, and why carbon in the wastegate is the real fault.
The plastic housing embrittles and weeps. Revised number, bleed procedure.
The two failure modes that account for most lean banks on the V6. Smoke test, gasket numbers, idle MAF window.
Extracting a seized glow plug without the head off, and the copper washer that stops the soot ring.
The rising drone between 40 and 60 mph on AWD cars, a bench test for the viscous unit, and the fluid that is routinely got wrong.
Blocked scuttle drains flood the passenger carpet and take the body control module with them.
Park/neutral, battery cover, headlights as a load test, PATS key chip, damp coil plugs, ECU feed, and the under-bonnet fuse tray.
Cover off the left-hand battery, red to plus, black to an engine mount, cars must not touch, key out so the locks do not fire.
Undershields throw the stain rearwards. Drain plug and filter, white coolant crust, inboard driveshaft seals, a wet caliper, PAS at the rack pipes.
Screw-in eye, left-hand thread, bumper cover on the left. Automatic 0.8 km at 50 km/h. AWD 50 km at 50 km/h, front wheels down unless the propshaft is out.
Name the fault before you buy parts. Check fuel, battery and fuses first. Fix the cause, not the flat battery or the fouled plugs.
Silent starter versus spinning and never firing. Petrol wants coils, plugs and PATS. Diesel wants glow, fuel filter and no air in the lines.
Idle shake, hesitation, stalls and a flat pull. Coils and plugs on petrol, injectors and filter on diesel, intake leaks before you blame the ECU.
Low coolant, stuck thermostat, airlock, dead fans. No heat with a cold upper hose often means the thermostat never closes. V6 housing weeps are common.
Tyres and loading first. Pull is often one seized caliper or mixed pads. Spongy pedal is air or a diesel vacuum pump. Hard pedal is servo hose or the pump.
Posts, belt and alternator before a new battery. Charge lamp on while running means the machine is not charging. Parasitic drain and a wet BCM are X-Type classics.
Wheel balance around 80 km/h, CV click on full lock, transfer case drone on AWD, and engine knocks that change with load. Name where you feel it.
Listen under the rear seats at key-on, then gauge the Schrader on the right of the rail. Spec is 4.5 bar. Sensor torque 10 Nm.
Driver footwell kick panel, two screws. After a shunt or a hard bump the pump stays dead until you press the reset on top.
Intervals, fluids and consumables by variant.
