Plenum drains, a wet footwell and a dead BCM

Blocked scuttle drains flood the passenger carpet and take the body control module with them.

Leaves pack the scuttle drains under the windscreen. Water follows the bulkhead down the passenger side and soaks the BCM, which lives under that carpet on early cars. Random windows, locks that answer on the third press, a security system that will not arm — start here, not with a new module.

Clear the drains

Lift the scuttle grille. Two rubber drain pipes drop into the wings. Rod them until water runs freely. Dry the carpet with the car in the sun or a dehumidifier for a day before you decide the BCM is finished. Green crust on the connectors is enough to justify a module; a damp board often recovers.
