Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction
Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction
Documented for: 2.0D/2.2D; 2.0L gasoline; 2.5L/3.0L gasoline · System(s): EMS/diesel, EMS EOBD, EMS OBD II · Factory MIL flag: 2
Common causes
- Camshaft position sensor
- connector/wiring
- timing/sensor target
- ECM less commonly
- CMP Sensor disconnected CMP Sensor gap incorrect / foreign matter on sensor face CMP Sensor sensing circuit: open circuit, short circuit to ground, short circuit to high voltage CMP Sensor 1 failure
- Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit (Bank 1 or single sensor)
Quick checks
- Confirm freeze-frame and conditions when the code set
- Inspect connectors, grounds, and harness for the circuit named in the code
- Compare live sensor values vs expected (unplugged/biased sensors are common)
Typical fixes
- Check CMP supply, ground, signal and wiring
- verify cam/crank synchronisation
- replace sensor if proven faulty.
- Inspect CMP sensor
- check timing
